Microsoft Azure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) helps safeguard access to data and applications while maintaining simplicity for users. It provides additional security by requiring a second form of authentication and delivers strong authentication via a range of easy to use authentication methods, hardware tokens being one of them.
This post is to further clarify the compability aspects of our tokens and Azure MFA. There are 2 flavors of Azure MFA - cloud and on-premises. According to Microsoft only on-premises version of Azure MFA supports hardware tokens.
This is something we have to politely correct. With our offerings, you can have hardware tokens with both cloud and on-premises Azure MFA - you just have to choose the correct model. So, here is the summary to choose the correct model for your needs:
Feature | MFA in the cloud | MFA Server |
---|---|---|
Classic hardware token support | ● | |
Programmable hardware token support | ● | ● |
